Hi, I’m Melinda and I would like to take a few minutes to introduce myself. After all, I think it’s important to get to know a little bit about the person you are entrusting to help you buy or sell your home. In addition to being a real estate agent, I am a wife and mother. I met my husband when I was 19 years old. We got married in 1998 and have 2 wonderful boys together. One is in middle school and the other in elementary school and they are my world! Both play baseball and are really very good at it…I guess they get that from me (haha). I do love the sport and encourage them in any way that I can. We also have a few pets…3 dogs and 3 cats that I refer to as my “fur kids”. My family and I reside in Charles County and I have lived here all of my life. I think it is a wonderful place to raise a family and it offers a little bit of something for everybody! I first got into real estate, in 1993 at the age of 22 years old, and started as an office assistant at a national real estate brokerage. I did a little bit of everything for all of the agents in the office and worked directly under the office manager. I was there for about 5 years and really enjoyed every aspect of the job. When I left there, I went into a completely different direction. This particular job just kind of fell into my lap and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to try and better myself. I stayed there for almost 6 years but realized my passion was in real estate. I went on to work at a title company, which gave me great experience on the “back end” that still helps me today! I grew up on a small family farm in a little town called Tehachapi in southern California. In the 18 years I lived with my parents we didn’t move once, really not a single time. However I met the love of my life, Richard in 1996 and have moved with him 11 times throughout his military career and settling down with our two children here in southern Maryland. I am born and raised here in Southern Maryland where I became a graduate of La Plata High School in 1998. After graduating, I worked as a Childcare Director for Medallion School Partnerships for 4 years. Although I loved working with children, I still didn’t feel as though it was my passion.
I was extremely interested in real estate, to the point where I found myself spending my spare time going to open houses and looking at model homes. At the time, being a single mom of two young boys, I thought that dream was out of my reach. I decided to move to Baltimore, MD and enroll in the nursing program at The American Red Cross, where I graduated at the top of my class and received a license as a CNA/GNA. I loved working with the elderly, but still yearned for something else.
After two years I decided to enroll at Tesst College of Technologies in Towson where I received a certificate in Business Administration in 2004. Upon graduation I was offered a job at Tesst as a Financial Aid Officer. Though I enjoyed helping young adults plan their future, it still wasn’t enough. I was homesick and still looking for more.
Eventually, I knew then that it was time to move back to Southern Maryland where I found myself unable to find employment pertaining to my education and background, so I took a job as a Host at Red Hot & Blue (a BBQ restaurant) in Waldorf. I, very quickly, moved up the chain and became the Manager. While doing so, I also started working part-time as an Accounting Assistant/Payroll Manager at K.S. Accounting in Hughesville, MD.
Finally, in June 2016, I was able to attend the SMAR class and obtain my license as a Real Estate Agent. I currently reside in La Plata, MD with my husband (and best friend), Bennie. We have 3 children combined, now ages 19, 16, and 10.
